FX84 Milk Box Compressor

The DOD FX84 Milk Box Compressor is a compressor introduced at Winter NAMM 1996, replacing the FX80B in DOD’s lineup. Its compression circuit is complemented by dedicated high-frequency expansion, designed to provide additional control over dynamics while retaining clarity. Its unusually named controls are Quarts (Level), Cream (Compression), Spill (Attack), and Pasteurization, a touch-sensitive high-frequency expansion control that increases its effect with harder playing. According to the manual, the FX84 is intended to be placed before the amplifier rather than in an effects loop, and preferably first in the effects chain. Its circuit includes four 4558-type op-amps and two THAT 2159 VCAs. The FX84 followed the earlier FX80 and FX80B compressors.
