The EarthQuaker Devices Gary is a dual fuzz/overdrive developed with Lee Kiernan of IDLES. Its overdrive side is based on the green channel of EQD’s discontinued Gray Channel, specifically Kiernan’s preferred diode-free setting. Go ranges from full-range clean boost to op-amp distortion, while That’s It controls output level. The fuzz side generates a square-wave fuzz with envelope-controlled pulse width. Yes! adjusts envelope sensitivity, causing harder playing to progressively narrow the pulse width for increasingly nasal, biting and potentially gated/disappearing sounds, while Oosh sets fuzz output. Each side has its own footswitch and can be used independently.
