Germanium Boost

This pedal is a germanium clean boost built around a single germanium transistor and a temperature-compensated biasing system designed to eliminate many of the drawbacks traditionally associated with germanium circuits. The design maintains a stable operating point regardless of temperature changes, transistor leakage, or component drift. To improve performance as a clean boost, the circuit increases both input headroom and input impedance, avoiding the unwanted distortion and low-frequency loss often found in traditional germanium transistor designs. After power-up, the boost requires a short stabilization period while the biasing system calibrates the transistor. Rather than adding significant coloration or gain-stage distortion, the pedal is intended to enhance clarity, dynamics, and harmonic richness while preserving the original character of the instrument. It can be used as a transparent boost, to drive an amplifier harder, or as a tone-enhancing always-on pedal.
